Efficiency

Efficiency = The percent of tissue recovered from the slide surface relative to manual methods, measured by DNA quantitation.

Method and result: AOIs (Areas Of Interest) from 4 micron thick FFPE tissue sections were recovered using either the MesoDissection System, the edge of a scalpel blade, or the tip of a needle under a dissection microscope. For each experiment, sequential tissue sections cut from the same tissue block were used to minimize differences. DNA quantity was determined by complete digestion using the xTractr/THOR system followed by PicoGreen DNA binding dye quantitation.

Conclusion:
MesoDissection is similar in efficiency to scalpel dissection (which appears to be nearly 100% efficient). Efficiency appears consistent over a range of tissue types and dissection areas.
